Fun Fit Program

Fun Fit Program

The Guelph Storm are pleased to announce the launch of a new community initiative, Fun Fit. The objective of the Fun Fit program is to educate the youth of Guelph and surrounding communities on the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.  These presentations will generally be hosted by schools in an assembly setting inside their gymnasium.

During the 2011/12 season, the Guelph Storm will be making approximately 40 visits to local elementary schools as part of our Champions for Education program. Sponsored by The Co-operators, The Little Gym Guelph, Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health. The Storm’s “Fun Fit” presentation is delivered to students in grades 4 through 8 and promotes active minds and active bodies.  The objective of this program is to educate the students on the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.

More than ever, playing hockey in the CHL demands a healthy lifestyle that includes strict fitness regiments and a healthy diet year round.  As role models for healthy and fit lifestyles, Storm players discuss their own experiences and the benefits of eating healthy and being active.  Students are able to gain a unique perspective on these issues from the players, who also spend time answering questions and giving autographs.

The presentation is more than words, with Storm players encouraging participation from the students by demonstrating and leading the group in exercises and stretches that can be incorporated daily.

"Being role models to the youth in our community is a responsibility that every member of our organization enjoys and takes very seriously,” said Guelph Storm Director of Business Operations Matt Newby.  “We’re excited to introduce the “Fun Fit” program because it’s a natural fit for our players with their own commitment to fitness.  To be able to deliver these messages to young students is a tremendous opportunity and we’re glad that we can give back to a community that has supported us for so long."

The Champions For Education program includes the “Fun Fit” assembly presentations and the “Read to Succeed” presentations in a classroom setting.  Each season, in addition to appearances at local elementary schools, Guelph Storm players and staff make countless visits to different community groups and non-profit organizations.
