GuelphStorm.com goes inside the Storm for the weeky 'Storm Tracks'.

Beck's 'break-out'... Heading into Saturday night's game in Owen Sound, Guelph Storm forward Taylor Beck (pictured) is currently tied for fifth in the league in scoring with 30 points in 17 games... Beck's point per game average (1.76) ranks third behind only top NHL draft prospects Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin (both average 2 points per game)... The Niagara Falls native is currently riding an 11-game point scoring streak and leads the Storm in goals, assists, points, plus/minus and is tied with Matt Kennedy for the lead in powerplay goals... If Beck can continue his impressive offensive pace, it's likely that he'll become the first Storm player since Marty St. Pierre's 110 point overage season to rank among  the OHL's top 10 scorers... Prior to St. Pierre, you'd have to go back to Todd Norman in 1996-97 with 105 points to find another top 10 Storm scorer.

Around the quarter-pole they go... With their 17th game in the books, the Storm has finished the first quarter of their 2009/10 season... The Storm are on pace for a 76 point season... In 2007/08 and 2008/09, Guelph finished with 77 points and in 2006/07, the club earned 78 points... With 58 goals scored through 17 games, the Storm is on pace to score 232 goals (highest total since 2005-06)... Defensively, Guelph's projected total of 256 would be the most goals allowed by a Storm team since 1999-00.

Storm penalty kill struggles... With a pair of divisional tilts on the road to finish a three-in-three weekend, the Storm will need to improve the league's worst penalty killing unit for any success... On Saturday night in Owen Sound it will be the 18th ranked powerplay against Guelph's struggling PK, then one day later in Kitchener the number one powerplay (tied at 27.4% with Barrie) will provide a stiff test for Guelph... Since the Storm's 2003-04 season, the team's penalty kill success rate for each season was never lower than 81%... At 69.9% the Storm's penalty kill has a long way to go to reach those numbers... On the bright side, only six teams in the OHL surrender fewer powerplay opportunities per game than the Storm minimizing the damage in the early going... The Storm has also managed four shorthanded goals in the early going to help offset their PK struggles ranking third behind only Windsor (6) and Barrie (5).

Season PK Pct Rank
2009-10 69.9% 20th
2008-09 81.0% 10th
2007-08 85.7% 3rd
2006-07 84.0% 3rd
2005-06 82.5% 9th
2004-05 84.5% 2nd
2003-04 84.3% 3rd

Injury woes continue... The Storm continues to battle injury and illness... F Vadim Guskov returned to action on Friday night in the Storm's 6-3 loss... Peter Holland and Michael Latta who finished second and fifth on the club in scoring last season are both on the shelf with shoulder injuries, while defenceman Tim Campbell who has been among Guelph's top four blueliners all season is recovering from a mild concussion.

Hit the road... but come back soon... With 17 games down, the Storm has played a league-high 12 on home ice with a 0.625 home win percentage... Guelph will play their next four away from the Sleeman Centre with stops in Owen Sound, Kitchener, Plymouth and Oshawa on tap... The schedule imbalance continues later in November with four of the Storm's last five this month at home.

November not nice... The Storm has split their two November contests to date in 2009/10 with a shootout win last Sunday followed by a 6-3 loss on Friday night versus Ottawa... In the previous three seasons, Guelph has played 32 games in November winning only nine times (9-16-4-3).
