Guelph Storm graduate and Guelph native Tim Priamo will be among 20 Canadian Hockey League graduates and 102 university student athletes on their way to Turkey this week to participate in the Winter Universiade Games, which open in Erzurum on Thursday.

The Men's Hockey Team consists of Canadian University players, including 20 that are playing university on scholarships from their CHL clubs.

The men's hockey team open their schedule on Thursday against Slovakia. They also play Belarus, Korea and Turkey in the preliminary round of the tournament. The medal round starts next Wednesday with the gold medal game on February 6.

Clarke Singer from Western heads up the coaching staff along with Kevin Figsby from Concordia, Cam O'Donnell from Western and Shawn Camp from the University of Guelph.

The team is made up of Ontario University Athletics players that competed in a 31-player camp before Christmas in Toronto. That camp included an exhibition game against the Canadian National Junior Team.

"We are very pleased with the team we have assembled," Singer said. "We are very excited about the 22 players who are going to represent OUA, CIS and Canada at the Games and we look forward to challenging the best nations in the world for a gold medal."

Canada won the silver medal in men's hockey in the 2009 Winter Universiade Games in Harbin, China. They lost to Russia in the championship game.

Canada will play their games in the 3,000 seat Cernal Gursel Sports Campus in Erzurum.
