By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury - The Guelph Storm has the Erie Otters in its sights these days.
A 6-3 win over the Sarnia Sting Friday night at the Sleeman Centre pulled the eighth-place Storm to within three points of the seventh-place Otters. Guelph also has a game in hand and the two teams meet again next Friday in Guelph.
Friday’s win also leaves Guelph’s magic number at two points, meaning any combination of points earned by the Storm and lost by Owen Sound would clinch a playoff berth.
“That’s our main goal, to go as high as we can in the standings,” said Storm forward Taylor Beck, who paced the attack with a pair of goals and two assists last night.
Beck, who now has 87 points on the season, is trying to become the first Storm player to hit the 90-point mark since Marty St. Pierre did it in the 2003-2004 season.
