By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury - The Guelph Storm will spend Sunday afternoon hitting the refresh button on their computers.

If the Plymouth Whalers beat the Saginaw Spirit Sunday in Plymouth, the Storm finishes in sixth place in the Western Conference and faces the Kitchener Rangers in the opening round of the playoffs.

If Saginaw wins or earns one point with an overtime or shootout loss, the Storm finishes in seventh place and plays the London Knights in the first round. Saginaw holds the tiebreaker advantage over Guelph.

Either way, the playoffs start on the road Friday with the first home game on Sunday, March 14, at 2 p.m.

“I hope Plymouth beats Saginaw, but at the end of the day, all we can do is control us. What everyone else does is what they do,” said Storm coach Jason Brooks, mulling over the possibility that Plymouth might rest some players Sunday in what is a meaningless game for them.

If they do, there’ll be no hard feelings. The Storm would likely have done the same thing in their situation.

“It’s going to be (awful) waiting to see what happens today,” Brooks said. “But at least I know we’re guaranteed seventh place. Not that that’s a great situation.”

But better than eighth, which would have meant a meeting with the Windsor Spitfires in the first round.

After a scoreless first period Saturday in Owen Sound, Peter Holland finally solved Attack goaltender Jordan Binnington with a hard wrist shot at 11:54 of the second period with the Storm shorthanded.
