When the Guelph Gryphons open their OUA men’s hockey league season Thursday night, they’ll have another former Guelph Storm player in their lineup.

Former Storm goaltender Cody St. Jacques is expected to get the start in net Thursday in the opener against the Western Ontario Mustangs at the Gryphon Centre

“After four years in the O, I kind of get a fresh start in a new league,” he said.

St. Jacques will be making a comeback of sorts this season as he returns to active duty after sitting out that last half of his final season in the Ontario Hockey League.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am, I probably won’t sleep the next two nights,” he said after Tuesday’s practice. “I missed the second half of last year with a (back) injury and I watched my team crawl its way into a playoff spot without me. I got the itch to kind of get back in there and play some games that mean something.”

The Gryphons enter the regular season after posting a 3-2-1 record in a preseason that included a title win in Brock’s Silver Blade tournament. They started with three wins at the Brock tournament -- 3-0 over Brock, 5-1 over Laurier and 5-1 over Brock in the tournament final – but haven’t won since.

They lost 4-2 to the University of New Brunswick and 6-5 in overtime to the University of Prince Edward Island in a pair of games at Fredericton. They also lost 5-3 to Notre Dame in an exhibition game last weekend at South Bend, Ind.
