The Guelph Storm's four game win streak and hold on eighth spot both came to an end on Saturday night in Owen Sound when the Attack scored four straight goals to blow open a 1-1 tie and grab a 6-2 victory.

Leading scorer Taylor Beck skated in the pre-game warm-up, but was held out of game action for the second straight night.  Tyler Carroll also missed the game one night after notching a pair of goals in Guelph's win over Sarnia.

The two clubs entered the game tied for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with Guelph holding three games in hand.  Despite the momentum that the Storm carried into the contest, it was the Attack that scored early and often and dominated the visitors.  Mike Halmo gave the Attack the early lead only 55 seconds in.  Owen Sound held the one goal bulge for over 16 minutes until Francis Menard (pictured) banged in a rebound off a Sam Loquist point shot to even the score at one.  Only 18 seconds later, the hosts replied and restored a lead that they wouldn't surrender for the rest of the way.  Bobby Mignardi notched the go ahead tally after picking off a failed clearing attempt and wristing a shot that caught a Storm defender's stick and bounced past brandon Foote.  With just 68 seconds to play in the frame, Steven Shipley scored the eventual game winner after Garrett Wilson outmuscled a Storm defenceman behind the Guelph goal and spotted Shipley alone in front.  Despite holding a 16-12 edge in shots on goal in the first, the Storm found themselves down a pair after one.

With Matt Sisca in the box to open the period, the Storm's game plan was simple - kill off the early penalty and generate some scoring chances on Scott Stajcer.  While Guelph managed to kill off the minor penalty, the Attack found the back of the net only four seconds after the Storm forward returned to the ice.  Faced with a three goal deficit four straight Owen Sound powerplays left the Storm reeling in the middle frame.  Grant McGee redirected a pretty shot/pass under Foote for the Attack's only powerplay goal of the night to make it 5-1 Owen Sound on four straight goals in less than ten minutes.  Held without a shot for the first 11 plus minutes of the second, Guelph would finally hit Stajcer with an attempt on their first man advantage of the stanza just inside the nine minute mark.  Owen Sound outshot Guelph 14-10 in the middle twenty and went to the dressing room with a 5-1 edge.

The Storm would cut the lead to 5-2 with their second powerplay goal of the night courtesy of Matt Sisca from Michael Latta, but that was as close as they would come.  Owen Sound's Myles Doan banged a rebound past Foote at 8:32 and the Attack cruised to a 6-2 win.

The loss combined with wins by each of the three teams that Guelph is chasing in the Western Conference playoff race makes Monday afternoon's home affair versus the London Knights even more critical for the Storm.  For tickets to the annual Family Day Holiday contest at 2 pm, call or visit the Guelph Storm box office or buy online at GuelphStorm.com.
