KITCHENER — Don Rickles is Mr. Warmth.
Bobby Vinton is Mr. Lonely.
And Jason Akeson? Well, he’s Mr. Teddy.
Two Decembers in a row, the cuddly Kitchener Ranger from Orleans stuffed in the Teddy Bear Night goal to bring a flurry of fuzzies cascading to the Aud ice.
Akeson scored 12 minutes into the first period.
That’s when 6,348 fans flung 6,831 snuggables to the ice upon the Rangers’ first goal in Tuesday’s 5-2 Ontario Hockey League victory over Guelph’s stumbling Storm.
Twelve minutes later, the game resumed after an army of minor hockey players helped scoop up the bagged bears for local charities as Boston Bruins’ Papa Bear — GM Peter Chiarelli — watched from above.
In 15 years of Bear Barrages, Akeson is the first two-time Teddy Title-holder or Bi-Polar Goaler.
A year ago, he scored on a short-handed breakaway against Erie and 6,528 Teddies got tossed.
