This year, the Guelph Storm Hockey Club has joined the group in their fundraising efforts.  On Sunday, March 4, Cuts for Cancer haircuts will be done at the Storm game against the Ottawa 67’s.  Proceeds from game tickets purchased through Cuts for Cancer will add to the fundraising total.   In addition, three Storm players will be looking to fans for donations.  Cody McNaughton, Jason Dickinson and Spencer Turcotte have offered their heads to the cause—if their fundraising team hits $1000, the three athletes will go bald!

On March 2nd and 3rd, 2012, Cuts for Cancer will hold their third annual haircutting event in the atrium of the Stone Road Mall.  Ponytails of 8” or longer will be donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths and Locks of Love to make real-hair wigs for women and children with cancer.  Each ponytail donated has a retail value of about $200 and an invaluable impact on the self esteem of those facing hair loss due to cancer treatment.

Participants are sponsored for their haircuts and raise funds for research through the Childhood Cancer Canada Foundation.  The top individual fundraiser will receive a prize package including food, entertainment and a stay at the Delta Chelsea hotel in downtown Toronto.

For those not ready to make a big change, Streak for Cancer will also be at the event selling coloured hair extensions (clip-ins and pre-bonds for $10 and feathers (Stripes) $20 each) with all proceeds to the Childhood Cancer Canada Foundation.  See www.streakforcancer.ca for details.

All members of the Guelph community are invited to participate and help reach this year’s $30,000 fundraising goal.  Hair donation guidelines, registration procedures and Guelph Storm tickets can be found at www.cutsforcancerguelph.ca

Hair will be cut by professional stylists from Kharisma Hair Design & Colorist and donors are welcome to return to the salon in the Stone Road Mall at half price.  Donations can be made at the event or online and will be accepted until March 30, 2012.  Every dollar helps and every cut counts!

Note: Private women-only accommodations are available for haircuts.

Cuts for Cancer Guelph is a University of Guelph-based group of volunteers that includes cancer researchers and childhood cancer survivors.  In the last two years the group has collected close to 150 ponytails and raised more than $22,000, providing research grants to Canadian institutions pursuing the most promising new cures for childhood cancer.
