Jason Brooks returned from Belarus earlier this week with a shopping list. Now he just has to find out whether the items are for sale.
Brooks got back Wednesday after attending the World Under-18 Hockey Championships where he was looking for an import player the Storm could add next season.
Russians Evgeny Molotilov and Vadim Guskov were the team’s two allotted imports last season. The team is looking at replacing one or both in the June 20 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
“We’ll see how things turn out, but it was productive from a standpoint of meeting some players and meeting their agents and getting a feel for the players,” Brooks said Friday.
“We identified guys I liked and then spoke to agents to see if the player is interested in coming over,” Brooks said. “There are some very good players the Guelph Storm is interested in bringing over.”
If they are interested in playing major junior hockey, the team will follow up with agents, then prioritize the players and figure out whether the team needs to move up from its draft position in June’s import draft in order to get a good shot at them.
