By Alex Terry, GuelphStorm.com - Mike Halmo scored three goals as the Owen Sound Attack battled their way to a 4-1 victory over the Guelph Storm at the Sleeman Centre on Friday night.

Jake Dotchin added a goal and an assist for the Attack (15-11-2-2-) while Jordan Binnington turned aside 35 shots to earn his 10th win.

Scott Kosmachuk scored the lone goal for Guelph (12-10-1-3) who seemed to be worn down by their opponent.

The crowd of 4,564 enjoyed a back and forth fast paced game for the first two periods until the physical play of Owen Sound got the best of the home team.

Halmo opened the scoring in what was a very fast first period while on the power play. The Owen Sound captain corralled a bouncing puck off the end boards and managed to shove it over a sprawling Garret Sparks who would go on to make 29 saves in the loss.

Owen Sound led 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The Attack had a great opportunity to extend their lead early in the second were it not for a great diving play by Stephen Gaskin followed by a flurry of saves by Sparks and culminating in a shot wrung off the post.

Kosmachuk would draw even for the Storm later in the period with a power play goal. Taking a nice behind the back pass in the slot from Zack Mitchell, Kosmachuk beat Jordan Binnington low on the blocker side with a quick wrist shot. The goal was Kosmachuk’s 13th of the year tying the game 1-1.

Sparks made a great pad save on a breakaway chance by Cameron Brace near the end of the period to preserve the tie at the 40 minute mark.

Owen Sound regained the lead on a good individual effort by Halmo who broke down the wing and beat Sparks over the blocker.

Dotchin would later make it 3-1 for the Attack with a flukey shorthanded goal and Halmo would add an empty net goal to complete the hat trick and give the game it’s final score of 4-1.

The Storm will look to bounce back tomorrow night when the visit the Plymouth Whalers. Puck drop is 7:05 PM
