The Guelph Storm honoured rookie forward Zack Mitchell and third year goaltender Cody St. Jacques with a couple of academic awards before the fourth game of the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the London Knights on Thursday night.

Presenting the awards for the Guelph Storm's nominees for the Roger Neilson Academic Award and the Ivan Tennant Memorial Award were Storm Tracker's President, Annette Montgomery, Donna Rawbone and Shari Dorr, Education Consultants for the Guelph Storm. The OHL's academic honors, The Roger Neilson Academic Award and the Ivan Tennant Memorial Award, are presented yearly to players based entirely on academic achievement.

The Storm's 2009/10 nominee for the OHL's Roger Neilson Academic Award, given each season to the top student in a post-secondary school program is Cody St. Jacques.  The Iroquois Falls native achieved an A average while taking two university courses.  His commitment to school has been consistently high throughout the year resulting in him being named the recipient of the first two RBC Academic Awards of the year and the co-recipient of the third earlier this month.

Guelph also announced their nominee for the 2009/10 Ivan Tennant Memorial Award as top high school student before Game Four. Storm rookie Zack Mitchell received the honour after achieving an average of 85% while taking eight university prep courses.

Mitchell was also named the Storm’s nominee for the Bobby Smith Award presented annually to the top scholastic player who exhibits both high academics and playing skill.  Mitchell, an intelligent play maker, had great success in his rookie season. The 17 year old has a great skill set which he displayed winning the silver medal at the Under-17 World Hockey Championship.
